Interested in Becoming a Referee?

The process has changed for new referees to include an online and on field course.  The online course will take 5-6 hours complete where these are clinics you will need to review.  The on field course will require you to register but they are not set-up right now and hope to have them available to sign up for by the end of July.

Go to to begin the process.  By certifying now, you will be certified for the remainder of 2021.  Once you are on the site, go to How to Become a USSF Referee in North Carolina then select the link at the bottom of the page for Grassroots Referee.  Please read and follow ALL the instructions on the NCSRA website.

Tips and Information about the process:

Completing a Registration:

  • Registration occurs during a fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Once a Referee is certified, their Referee Certification applies to the next calendar year and the certification is good for the entire calendar year (January 1st – December 31st).
Completing a Registration requires payment by a credit/debit card and the completion of steps that set up the users’ profile.
Once a Registration is completed, the next step is complete the coursework.

Completing the Online Coursework

  • Once you have completed the registration, you will also need to complete a list of online requirements.
To view the requirements, go to the USSF-NC Central Hub
Click the Eligibility Tab which is located at the top of the page.
Scroll to the 2020 Grassroots that is available to you and click.
A list of requirements/clinics will drop down. All requirements/clinics will need to be completed. Please pay special attention to the instructions to complete the online course material.
Lastly, there is NOT a separate exam to complete and pass.  You will be asked questions throughout the clinics and you will need to answer them correctly.  If you miss one you will have the opportunity to go back to answer the question again.

Please note, if you should get “An error has occur when an error occurred when trying to register your account to this clinic” when attempting to access the coursework, then this would be due to your Internet Browser. Please remove the cookies and cache of your Internet Browser. Restart your browser, or even switch your browser to something like Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox. It also might be best to restart your computer after you have done this.
